"Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven't time, and to see takes time - like to have a friend takes time." - Georgia O'Keeffe

For many schools, art education is no longer an important part of the curriculum. Student exposure to art and art making happens infrequently or not at all. I think it is a grave mistake to deprive children of the opportunities for growth, analysis and understanding that art provides. I can teach anyone the mechanics of drawing, but first I teach students to see anew by challenging and altering their perceptions and visual conventions. They learn not only to think for themselves, but to consider multiple points of view.
